Atlanta, Georgia, became home and it was here that he met his third musical mentor, former Berkeley School of Music faculty member Ted Howe. It was with Howe that Don’s focus turned to acoustic piano and arranging. Shortly after their meeting, Don became music director for the Club Atlantis at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, where he and his trio were the opening act for some of the music industry’s top performers, including Billy Eckstein, Chris Conners, Lionel Hampton, Clint Holmes and Julie Budd.
After six years at the Club Atlantis, Don accepted a position as an adjunct faculty member at Georgia State University School of Music, where he taught piano improvisation and harmony.
