“Plays with genuine technique but rocks out like it means it.” – Time Out New York

Break of Reality

Cello and percussion crossover group Break of Reality returns with its unique sound of “cello rock.” Cinematic, subdued and heavy all at once, it’s not surprising that their musical influences run from heavy metal to classical and indie rock.

Break of Reality is an American cello quartet based in New York. Formed at the Eastman School of Music in 2003, the band is filling concert venues around the country with fans eager to hear “cello rock”. Their sound is cinematic, subdued and heavy all at once, and their live audiences are equally diverse; fans of Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, and Yo-Yo Ma are finally getting acquainted.
Along with performing, the group has written music for dance, film, and television, including an Emmy award-winning episode of AIR: America’s Investigative Reports on PBS. Through their affiliation with Pandora Radio, Break of Reality’s music has been streamed over six million times. The band has released three albums: The Sound Between (2006), Spectrum of the Sky (2009), and Covers (2012), which have sold over 40,000 copies worldwide.
