Josh Erwin and Michael Paynter of The Packway Handle Band have started the side project, SANS ABRI, arranging original songs that don’t necessarily fit the band’s bluegrass bill. The songs are a creative collaboration involving acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, percussion, and vocal arrangements. Expect an intimate set showcasing these two unique talents that have spent more than ten years together on the stage. ”What audiences will hear from Sans Abri will maintain a spiritual connection to Packway Handle’s rousing bluegrass-inspired folk, but with a distinct identity…As Sans Abri…they have also been able to distance themselves from the stylistic expectations associated with bluegrass. That alone has been worth the added challenge of keeping people engaged with fewer men onstage.” – Casey Phillips (Times Free Press)
KEN WILL MORTON has opened for Edwin McCain, Dick Dale, Randall Bramblett, Tommy Stinson, Sugarland, & more. In 2008, the song, “Oh Lord,” was prominently featured in the show, The Deadliest Catch. In 2011, his song, “On My Feet Again,” was used in the indie film, Flight Of The Cardinal. In June 2012, his song, “Devil In Me,” was used in HBO’s True Blood. Morton released Contenders on Ghostmeat Records in November 2011. It was recorded and mixed by Russ Hallauer and mastered by John Keane (REM, B-52s). He’s already putting the finishing touches on a new CD for late 2012, with tracks recorded at John Keane Studios, Chase Park Transductions and 1093 Boulevard.
POWERKOMPANY began as a love story — Marie (of Venice is Sinking) met Andrew (of Packway Handle Band) in a university science building. As scientists, the pair had crossed paths and they quickly realized they happened to fit together perfectly. They were married, continued touring with their respective bands (Venice is Sinking and Packway Handle Band), started businesses together, but then realized that it was impossible not to make music together. Powerkompany was born. Soon afterwards they recorded their first set of songs they call, Comfort.
