The Velvet Note, Atlanta’s newest live jazz venue will be opening it’s doors to the public for the first time for a FREE Open house Saturday, June 9, 2012 featuring two performances at 6:00pm & 8:00pm by acclaimed Atlanta-based drummer Justin Varnes, The Justin Varnes Trio. He will be accompanied by Tommy Sadder on base and Louis Heriveaux on piano. Complimentary horsdoeuvres will be available during both shows.
At the Velvet Note, we feature both nationally-recognized and acclaimed artists, as well as the best musicians in the local Atlanta region. Our soundstage is honored to host a true classic—our 1924 Baldwin M series baby grand piano. Friday evenings feature acoustic artists spanning rock, folk, country and indie music. On Saturday nights, we are an intimate jazz club, devoted to various styles jazz and blues, both vocal and instrumental. Our diverse music program is overseen by Justin Varnes, one of the most acclaimed jazz musicians in the business.
Justin currently residing in Atlanta, GA, he splits his time performing and teaching at Georgia State University. When In Atlanta, he performs with Audrey Shakir, Kevin Bales, Mace Hibbard, Joe Gransden and Gary Motley. On the road, Justin has performed with Mose Allison, Wesell Anderson, Kenny Barron, Ann Hampton Callaway, Victor Goines, Wycliffe Gordon, Vincent Herring, The Earl Klugh Trio, Oscar Perez, Bob Reynolds, Lew Soloff, David Sanchez, Annie Sellick, Phoebe Snow, Ira Sullivan, Christian Tamburr and Doug Wamble.
